Clementine

Best time so far this year.. my trip to California to meet Rohit, Hrishi, Sumeet, Sheetal, Asawari, Ruhi and the newest member Neel. My next few blogs will cover the trip details.

My meeting these guys always take me down the memory lane and remind me of the old times. During this trip, Ruhi reminded of an old camp (bonfire) song that I used to like as a kid. The song is called “Clementine” and Ruhi was playing it on her kid laptop yesterday. The song has been in my head since.

The song was originally written in 19th century and is a well known American Western folk ballad. The song has many versions in English. I also know of a Hindi and Marathi version of this song/ tune. The song “Yeh hai Bombay meri jaan” has the same tune as “Clementine” while a marathi camp song “Maazi ladki Sushila” seems to be a direct translation.

Enjoy the 2 videos of this song.

1. The first version is for all the KIDS and is from “The Alvin Show”

2. The second version is the Eddie Albert version of the song

You will notice that the lyrics of this song are not the softest and this is actually a sad song. I don’t know why the song is a nursery rhyme other than the fact that it has a catchy tune. You can check out the lyrics at the following link.

Meanwhile, let me enjoy my Clementine..
